Dan has loved geography and maps from an early age. During his school holidays he worked as an assistant map librarian at London’s prestigious Royal Geographical Society with access to an incredible archive of historic maps and atlases. His B.Sc degree in Geography introduced him to the digital world of remote sensing and GIS, after which he spent 18 months living, working and developing a GIS capability at a remote field station in the rainforest of Borneo. Returning to the UK he returned to the books to complete an M.Sc. in GIS at the University of Edinburgh.
Since then Dan’s entire career has been in the geospatial industry working for some of the UK’s leading independent geospatial software vendors such as 1-Spatial, Innogistic and Astun. Working in a range of technical, commercial and operational roles, he has found his sweet spot in managing geospatial professional service work, and has joined Sparkgeo to help grow the UK business.
Dan lives in Bristol with his wife and three sons, spending much of his spare time supporting them in their various sporting interests. When not doing that, or walking in the countryside, he’s happiest building things from wood. He even has a collection of four hand built electric and bass guitars to his name!
