Gordon works at Sparkgeo as a data scientist, focusing on geospatial/GIS data. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science and a Masters of Science in Geography from the University of Lethbridge, along with a variety of other course certificates relating to remote sensing/GIS.
Gordon’s favourite aspect of working at Sparkgeo is being able to work in a flexible and remote environment while being able to research and work on interesting real-world geospatial problems.
Gordon proclaims to have been a witty child, who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He taught himself to read at a fairly young age and later got into video games when his parents bought him a Playstation 1. In Gordon’s free time he works towards his aspirations of creating a budget “smart farm”, and has built himself a chicken coop and large garden with a drip irrigation system in that pursuit.
He enjoys biking, hiking, photography, playing video games, or sitting quietly with a coffee and a good book to read. In terms of travelling, he’s been to many parts of the southern and western United States, as well as Scotland. His most unique travel experience was spending a month and a half in Rwanda, a stunningly beautiful country with a fantastic climate. He hopes to do more travelling soon, with Iceland, New Zealand, and Norway at the top of his list for countries to visit next.
